The Saskatchewan Book Awards (SBA) is pleased to announce the launch of its new online submission portal for the 2027 Saskatchewan Book Awards season.
For the first time, authors and publishers can submit their entries through a streamlined online system designed to make the submission process faster, easier, and more efficient. Online registration is now open, with a submission deadline of November 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Through the new portal, entrants can:
- Complete submission forms online
- Upload book cover images and author photos
- Submit required declarations and supporting materials
- Receive confirmation of their submission
- Manage entries more efficiently than ever before
This new system represents an important step forward in modernizing the Saskatchewan Book Awards and enhancing the experience for authors, publishers, jurors, and administrators alike.
2027 Award Categories
Books published between November 1, 2025, and October 31, 2026 may be entered for consideration in one or more of the following award categories:
- Book of the Year
- Fiction
- Non-Fiction
- Poetry
- Scholarly Writing
- First Book Award
- Publishing Award
- Publishing in Education Award
- Indigenous Peoples' Writing Award
- Indigenous Peoples' Publishing Award
- City of Regina Book Award
- City of Saskatoon Book Award
- Le Prix du Livre Franรงais
- Young Adult Literature Award
Eligibility
To be eligible for the 2027 Saskatchewan Book Awards, entries must:
- Meet the general Saskatchewan Book Awards eligibility requirements, as well as the specific criteria for the award category entered.
- Be published between November 1, 2025, and October 31, 2026 (except for the Young Adult Literature, and Le prix du luvre award categories, both which have a two-year eligibility period or published between November 1, 2024 and October 31, 2026).
- Be registered online no later than November 6, 2026.
- Have all entry fees paid by November 6, 2026.
- Be received at the SBA office by 5:00 p.m. on November 6, 2026, or, if mailed or couriered, bear a postmark or shipping date no later than November 6, 2026.
- Meet any additional eligibility requirements for writing and publishing award categories.
Please Note: The Children's Literature Award, last presented in 2026, alternates biennially with the Young Adult Literature Award and will not be offered in 2027.
Entry Fees and Submission Copies
Authors and publishers may submit an unlimited number of eligible titles. The entry fee is $60 per title per award category. Entry fees are non-refundable.
For each title entered, applicants must submit four copies for the first award category and three additional copies for each additional category entered. The Saskatchewan Book Awards retains one copy of each submitted title, while one copy is provided to each juror responsible for adjudicating the award category in which the book is entered. Submitted books become the property of the Saskatchewan Book Awards and cannot be returned.

Regrettably, the SBA does not accept credit card payments. A confirmation receipt will be issued once payment has been received.

Late Submissions
Late submissions may be considered only if the SBA Executive Director has been contacted before the November 6, 2026 deadline and approval has been granted. Approved late submissions received by November 13, 2026 may be subject to a late fee of $100 per entry. No submissions will be accepted after November 13, 2026.
Judging and Awards
Each award category is evaluated by a jury of three literary and publishing professionals from outside Saskatchewan. Jurors review all eligible submissions and select a shortlist of up to five finalists, including the award winner.
All shortlisted titles will be announced in March 2027 and celebrated through SBA promotional activities, including media outreach and public reading events.
Winners will be announced at the 2027 Saskatchewan Book Awards Gala and Award Ceremony in Saskatoon on April 30, 2027.
Prize values, pending sponsorship, are:
- $3,000 โ Book of the Year
- $2,000 โ All other award categories
Each winner will also receive a commemorative certificate.
