Each year, the Saskatchewan Book Awards presents a series of shortlist events in the weeks leading up to the Gala on the last Saturday of November. Events are held in Regina & Saskatoon plus a Reading Tour that moves from city to city each year thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. Saskatchewan Book Day
The Saskatchewan Book Awards is pleased to present the first annual Saskatchewan Book Day on June 6, 2009 from 1-5 p.m. on the grounds in front of the Legislative Building. Admission is free and all are welcome. The event will feature readings by Saskatchewan authors, book sales and signings. Children’s activities will also take place and readings in the SaskTel tent.
The author and book lineup is as follows: Poet Laureate Robert Currie (Witness), David McLennan (Our Towns), Yann Martel (What is Stephen Harper Reading?), Bonnie Dunlop (Carnival of Glass), Harold LeRat (Treaty Promises, Indian Reality: Life on a Reserve), Margaret Hryniuk (Legacy of Stone), Joanne Weber (Pear Orchard), Martine Noél-Maw(Dans le pli des collines). In the children’s tent: Carrie Saganace (Stories of our People), Judith Silverthorne (Dinosaur Blackout), Neil Sawatzky (The Lake in the Middle of Town) and Lori Punshon (He who Flies by Night, the Story of Grey Owl).

Saskatchewan Book Awards Literary Salons Grand Finale
at the Shurniak Gallery
It’s once again time for the Saskatchewan Book Awards Literary Salons’ Grand Finale at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Shurniak Gallery (122 3rd Ave West) located in Assiniboia, hosted by Moose Jaw poet, Jim MacLean. Six Saskatchewan Authors readings will take place with book sales and signings by the authors.

Special guest Poet Laureate, Robert Currie, (reading Love of Mirrors for Gary Hyland who won the Award for Poetry and the Book of the Year Award), Donna Caruso (Journey Without A Map, which won the Non-fiction Award), Dan MacDonald (McGregor’s Hard Ice Cream and Gas, which was short-listed for the Book of the Year and the Regina Book Award), Pam Bustin (Mostly Happy, which won the Fiction Award and First Book Award), Alison Lohans (This Land We Call Home, winner of the Children’s Book Award), David McLennan (Our Towns, which won the Regina Book Award and the Publishing in Education Award), Sharon Butala (The Girl From Saskatoon, which was nominated for the Book of the Year and the Non-fiction Award).

Saskatchewan Book Awards Literary Salons Wind-up At CBC Galleria
The Saskatchewan Book Awards is pleased to present the CBC Literary Salon Wind-up on Friday, June 26 2009 doors open at 7 p.m. (seating is limited) and the reading starts at 8 p.m. in the CBC Galleria at 2440 Broad St.. Admission is free and all are welcome. Hosted by Kelly Jo Burke the event will feature book readings by Saskatchewan Book Award winners and short-listed nominees.
The author and book lineup is as follows:
Dan MacDonald (McGregor’s Hard Ice Cream and Gas, which was short-listed for the Book of the Year and the Regina Book award), Louise Halfe (The Crooked Good which won the Saskatoon Book Award and the First People’s Publishing Award), Sharon Butala (The Girl From Saskatoon, which was nominated for the Book of the Year and the Non-fiction Award), Pam Bustin (Mostly Happy, which won the Fiction Award and First Book Award), Donna Caruso (Journey Without A Map, which won the Non-fiction Award), and special guest Poet Laureate, Robert Currie, (reading Love of Mirrors for Gary Hyland who won the Award for Poetry and the Book of the Year Award).
Books will be available for sale and authors will be available for book signings.
