April 22, 2004 For immediate releaseSask Book Awards Recognized for Leadership & Innovation Saskatchewan Book Awards is honoured and delighted to learn that it has been short-listed for two of the inaugural Lieutenant Governor's Arts Awards.
"We appreciate the recognition these nominations give to our organization," said SBA President Garrett Wilson. "In both categories we share that recognition with a stellar slate of nominees. It is gratifying to see Saskatchewan authors also short-listed for these new Arts awards."
In addition to thirteen awards for Saskatchewan writers and publishers, the Book Awards brings to Saskatchewan high profile literary personalities as guest speakers at the annual Awards Gala. Featured this year will be Saskatchewan-born Alistair MacLeod whose first novel, No Great Mischief, won four major Canadian literary awards and the 2001 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
The Lieutenant Governor's Arts Awards celebrate the contribution and achievements made by individuals and organizations. Saskatchewan Book Awards is short-listed for Innovation in the Arts Award as well as for the Leadership Award .
"It is tremendous encouragement to a volunteer organization to know that the community recognizes and values our work," said Joyce Wells, SBA Executive Director. "We are particularly grateful to our sponsors whose donations fund the Book Awards and to supporters whose enthusiastic attendance at the Awards Gala increases each year."
The Book Awards celebrate and promote the best in Saskatchewan writing and publishing. -
