Saskatchewan Book Awards Brings Them Home
Returning to this province as guest speaker for the Saskatchewan Book Awards' (SBA) tenth anniversary gala, November 30 at the Centre of the Arts, Regina, will be journalist, author and Consul General to New York City, Pamela Wallin.

Guest artist will be Connie Kaldor who attended the first Book Awards gala in 1993. "Connie was delighted to be invited," said SBA secretary, Heather Salloum.

Established Canadian authors who form the jury panel will choose the Shortlist from over 80 entries this year. The Shortlist will be announced at a news conference on October 21. "The tenth anniversary gala promises to be the best ever," predicted Executive Director, Joyce Wells. "Not only are we looking forward to our guests, Pamela Wallin and Connie Kaldor, but we are also launching the new Prix du livre français, our first award which will recognize Saskatchewan authors writing in French."

Four nominated authors from Saskatoon will read at the Book Awards brunch in Saskatoon on Sunday, October 27 at the Bessborough Hotel. Tickets are $15, available from most Saskatoon bookstores or by contacting Rae Hearn, phone: 306-966-4491 or rae.hearn@usask.ca In Regina, the Book Awards brunch will be held on Sunday, November 10 at the Hotel Saskatchewan. Tickets are $15 available from Chapters, the Hotel Saskatchewan gift shop, or call Heather Salloum at 306-586-2606. The SBA Reading Tour will travel to LaRonge this year where nominees will read at a wine and cheese party on Friday, November 15 at the Royal Canadian Legion. Tickets are $5 and are available at the LaRonge Library and other local outlets. Readings at Luther College, U of R on November 21 at 4 p.m. are free and open to the public.
