Author-journalist, Pamela Wallin, appointed Consul General to New York City, will be guest speaker at the Book Awards 10th anniversary gala to be held Saturday, November 30 at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts, Regina.


A record number of books have been entered for the Saskatchewan Book Awards (SBA) for the summer deadline.

"We received 58 different titles," said Executive Director, Joyce Wells. "Because most books are entered in more than one category, we actually had 126 entries which were shipped to jurors the first week of August. The final deadline is September 14, so we don't know yet what the total number of entries will be."

The Saskatchewan Book Awards and the Fondation fansaskoise will launch a new biennial French Book Award, Prix du livre français this year at the 10th anniversary Book Awards gala on November 30. The award will be given for the best book written in French by a Saskatchewan author.

Author-journalist, Pamela Wallin, recently appointed Consul General to New York City will be the guest speaker at the 2002 Awards Gala. Featured at the gala will the complete collection of award-winning books since SBA began in 1993.

"The Book Awards initially offered four awards but with all the Saskatchewan writing talent to be celebrated, we've grown rapidly to twelve awards and the new French biennial award will total thirteen," said Wells. "The complete collection of award-winning books is an impressive tribute to the excellence of Saskatchewan writing and publishing."
