The Fondation Fransaskoise Sponsors French Book Award
The Saskatchewan Book Awards (SBA) and the Fondation fansaskoise is pleased to announce a new French Book Award, Prix du livre français to be launched this year at the 10th anniversary Book Awards gala on November 30 at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts, Regina.

The new Prix du livre français will offer French authors the same benefits of prestige and public recognition now enjoyed by Saskatchewan Book Award nominees and winners writing in English.

With the assistance of the Saskatchewan Publishers Group, Bernard Wilhelm, past president of Les Editions de la nouvelle plume, has worked out an agreement with SBA whereby the Conseil culturel fransaskois will assist with translation and other administrative requirements such as recruiting a qualified jury from among out-of-province French authors.

The French Book award will be worth $1500, the same as all other SBA awards. The multi-genre award will be offered biennially to a Saskatchewan author writing in the French language but the book need not be published in the province. Books can be submitted by either the author or publisher.

"The Fondation fransaskoise is pleased to be associated with a project which enhances French culture as well as promoting Fransaskois or Francophone authors of the province," says former publisher, Wilhelm. "Seeing the French Book Award become a reality is a high point of my publishing career."

To this effect the Fondation will sponsor the award in 2002. A special account has been opened for Fransaskois organizations and individuals to contribute to the French Book Award.
