SBA NEWS & EVENTSInformation For Second Submission Deadline August 13, 2001
SASKATCHEWAN BOOK AWARDS: First Deadline Breaks Record "For this first deadline," said Joyce Wells, executive director, "we usually get between 35 - 40 titles." "I think that the Saskatchewan Book Awards is gaining credibility across the nation. Both publishers and authors are keen to have their books recognized and get the promotion that Saskatchewan Book Awards offer." There are 12 categories, everything from First Book to Book of the Year. Books can be entered in all categories for which they are eligible. Nine of the categories are for Saskatchewan authors and three are for Saskatchewan publishers. The final deadline for submissions is September 15. The Shortlist will be announced the last week of October. Shortlist brunches in Regina and Saskatoon will feature nominated authors and a Shortlist event co-hosted by the Swift Current Public library will showcase nominated authors from around the province. Awards will be presented at the gala on November 30 at the Saskatchewan Centre for the Arts, Regina. Guest speaker will be Anna Porter, Publisher and CEO of Key Porter Books and author of "The Bookfair Murders," and "The Storyteller." Everyone interested in books is invited to hear the best of Saskatchewan authors read at Shortlist events and to be part of the excitement of the awards night on Friday, November 30.
