Saskatchewan writers and publishers shone today as the finalists for the 17th Annual Saskatchewan Book Awards were announced. A total of 70 titles were submitted for 176 entries across 14 categories.

The Saskatchewan Book Awards is pleased to present the first annual Saskatchewan Book Day on June 6, 2009 from 1-5 p.m. on the grounds in front of the Legislative Building. Admission is free and all are welcome. The event will feature readings by Yann Martel and Poet Laureate Robert Currie and other Saskatchewan authors reading from their books.

All time record breaking entries pared down on the 2008 Saskatchewan Book Awards Shortlist! The Shortlist of 54 titles and 81 nominations in 14 categories was announced today at simultaneous news conferences in Saskatoon and Regina. In total, there are 61 authors and editors and 29 publishers nominated in the running. Press Release.

Guest speaker, Lorna Crozier, kindly provided a copy of her Gala address to us.  If you would like, you can also just read, Crow, the poem she composed from the titles of all of this year's nominated books.

The winner of the "My Favourite Saskatchewan Book" Centennial contest was announced at the Gala.  The winning book was A Prairie Alphabet by Jo Bannatyne-Cugnet and Yvette Moore.  This book received the most votes of any on the list of 100 books that was compiled by a volunteer committee of librarians, bookstore employees, university professors and arts volunteers from around Saskatchewan.  We received hundreds of votes for this contest, over half of the 100 books on the list received at least one vote and seven books received write-in votes as well. Winners of the prize draw were: Wendy S. of Regina and Brenda H. of Craik.

Saskatchewan Designations Project Launched

The Saskatchewan Designation Project is the creation of a distinctive sticker with a logo for use as a unique visual identification for recognizing and identifying Saskatchewan produced literary, musical, and visual materials, especially in libraries.
